About Us
I'm Michelle. To say I'm a dog person would be an understatement. I grew up with cats, and I love all animals. But I've been blessed to have some of the best dogs in the world come into my life. I've made homemade dog food for my babies for years, but only recently started making treats. My food-motivated dogs weren't picky before I started making their treats, but now, they won't eat anything else.
I think it's really important that we feed our animals foods that don't contain preservatives. I have two dogs that have had pretty serious health issues, and I want to make sure what they're putting into their bodies is the best quality, most natural, best tasting food I can find. To that end, I've created some very interesting blends of flavors that have my dogs salivating!
After a long career in corporate finance, I decided to take my love of animals and passion for creating delicious, all-natural treats and share it with the world.
My Fur Babies:
Yoda - Yoda is mostly Chihuahua, with a little bit of pug thrown in. He was an impulse purchase fifteen years ago. I went into a pet store with no intention of walking out with anything other than dog food for my Basset Hound. Instead, I walked out with the last dog from his litter. He was the runt, he was shaky, he was mouthy, and I fell instantly in love. I took him to work with me every day for the first year and created a bond that I didn't know could exist. For the last fifteen years, he's been my ride or die. Two years ago, he scratched his eye, and it became abscessed and subsequently ruptured and had to be removed. Around that time, he started to lose his hearing and is now totally deaf and losing sight in his remaining eye. Basically, he's a hot mess! But the love meter has not moved! He loves to snuggle, he swims in our pool every day and he's just an absolute blessing, if a little high maintenance.
Ryan - Ryan is a Soft-Coat Chihuahua. He came to me eleven years ago when he was six. If you're doing the math, that makes him seventeen years old! When I got him, he had been pretty badly abused and had been in a crate for 23 hours a day for five months while in foster care. It took a lot of time and a lot of love to integrate him into our life. But he and Yoda hit it off immediately and became best friends. Four years ago, Ryan was starting to become weak. When he couldn't make it up the two steps onto our front porch, we took him to the ER vet. The diagnosis was IMHA, which is an auto-immune disease where your body basically eats your red blood cells. We were sure we were going to lose him, but our vet was amazing, and we were able to bring him back to full health. He is 100% our GOOD dog! He is never any trouble and he's about the cutest little guy on the planet. Even at seventeen years old, he still does wheelies (see picture).
Abigail Rose - my husband is obviously a sap because he chose this name. When I met him, I already had Yoda and Ryan. But he wanted a real dog, meaning a dog that weighed more than ten pounds. I found Abby on a rescue website, and we visited. After completing the seven-page adoption application, we found out that ten other people had filled out applications for her as well. Cause let's face it - she's rad! Somehow, out of all of those applications, they chose us to be her adoptive parents. There were tears of joy and we brought her home with us and her new brothers. The puppy vibe was strong in Abby! She ate shoes (7 pairs), walls, furniture, etc. Fortunately, she outgrew the chewing and became a sweet, very good dog. She is White Austrian Shepherd, German Shepherd, Pit Bull and Great Dane. What a mix! Her bark is terrifying, but really, she's such a softie!
That's our little family. For now. They are my inspiration and my taste testers. Know that when you purchase treats from Fur Baby Biscuits that these are the treats we feed our own dogs and that they've passed the rigorous testing process, achieving approval from Yoda, Ryan and Abby!
Thank you for being a part of the Fur Baby Biscuits family!
